This Cape kitchen was refurbished with refinished cabinetry and new lighting during a home renovation in Massachusetts

This updated kitchen was transformed by refinishing the cabinetry and installing new recessed lighting, making the room more energy efficient. The owners of this traditional Cape-style home wanted to update the look of their kitchen without disturbing the existing configuration of their cabinetry and appliances. They also wished to keep the existing cabinetry, tile flooring and tile backsplash. Another request was to eliminate the central fluorescent light fixture, and replace it with recessed lighting, while retaining the existing textured ceiling so that the entire surface did not need to be resprayed to obtain a consistent look.

An energy-star-certified central light fixture was installed to cover the area where the previous fluorescent fixture had been. New dimmable, recessed lighting was added for supplemental light, to eliminate the shadows sometimes created by a single light source, and to allow light control when entertaining or dining.
